What To See
Diocletian Palace. Created in the 4th-century, this Emperor’s Palace was once a fortress, royal home and protected city. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ancient Roman ruin is bustling with bars, restaurants and shops.
Klis Fortress. Towering over Split, on a limestone cliff, this is a must-see for its amazing views. Appealing to history buffs and “Game of Thrones” fans alike, this 2nd-century castle experienced real-life tragic attacks and was one of the main fortresses on the show. Among the ruins, tour the artifacts exhibits showcasing soldier uniforms and ancient weapons.
Split Old Town. Stroll back in time on medieval cobblestone streets and a maze of alleyways leading to modern restaurants, bars and hotels.
Marjan Forest Park. Explore old cave dwellings, small stone churches and captivating lookouts. Ascend about 300 stairs to reach the highest point on the hilltop.
Cathedral of St. Domnius. Travelers flock to this former mausoleum, created in 311, to witness some of the world’s best-preserved examples of Roman Architecture and magnificent views atop the bell tower.
