What To Do
Visit the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which includes artifacts from the sinking of the Titanic. Over 100 victims from the crash are buried at Halifax’s Lawn Cemetery.
Step into a soldier’s shoes at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. The Citadel was built by the British as a military fortification to protect the harbor, and the city of Halifax gradually took shape around it. Today, visitors can get a taste of the life of a 19th century “redcoat” at the Citadel.
If you’re visiting in the summertime, attend the Jazz Festival or the Halifax Seaport Beerfest, held each August, which hosts Atlantic Canada’s largest gathering of craft beer and breweries.
Take a stroll around Halifax Metro, where you’ll find great shopping and dining options. Enjoy a tasting tour sampling the local traditional cuisine. Explore the Seaport Famers’ Market where local farmers and chefs share their passion for their products. And when you’re done, don’t forget to stop for a drink - the city has more bars per capita than any other city in Canada.
Wander a little further afield to Peggy’s Cove, a quaint fishing village and home to the beautiful Peggy’s Point Lighthouse.
